The Bahamas sends one of its most grounded and purposeful representatives to the 75th Miss Universe stage. Carrying the Bahamian flag to San Juan, Puerto Rico is Shawndra Henfield – a 23-year-old computer information specialist from Exuma whose journey to the crown was defined by resilience, faith, and a platform rooted in personal experience.
Shawndra Henfield was crowned Miss Universe Bahamas 2026 on Sunday, July 19, at Atlantis Paradise Island. She will represent The Bahamas at the 75th Miss Universe pageant on November 24 at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The 23-year-old computer analyst and Exuma native dazzled judges and her fans throughout the gruelling and intense pageant process, looking flawless and unfazed every time she stepped out into the lights. But behind the polished exterior was a real battle – she admitted that the hardest part of the competition was the physical and mental toll it took, with her feet constantly in pain during the beginning stages, all while working a 9-to-5 job and showing up to every pageant event.
Her platform is one of the most personally meaningful in the entire Miss Universe 2026 field. Shawndra’s advocacy centers on affordable housing through her initiative, The Open Doors Project, which educates Bahamians on the path to homeownership. Inspired by her own family’s experience with housing insecurity after losing their home, she hopes to empower others with the knowledge and support they need to achieve homeownership.
On why she entered, Shawndra was clear: “I decided this was something I wanted because of what the pageant programme actually offered. It truly was a women’s empowerment programme, and I was looking for a challenge. I was also drawn to what the crown represents. It’s an opportunity to reach so many more people with my platform and to represent my country on a global stage, which is something I have always wanted.”
For Henfield, the Miss Universe Bahamas crown is a reminder that hard work, purpose, and resilience do not go unnoticed.
